Americans never seem to outgrow their love of toys. Oh, many of us substitute new cars, kitchen appliances, or electronic gizmos, but they're all just toys by any other name. The best toys are the simplest. While they've never gone out of favor, there's been a real explosion in interest in Legos, the plastic building blocks that have evolved into so much more than simple plastic bricks. The Lego company has added all sorts of electronics so that kids and adults can build working robots. And they've also been making toy sets themed after popular movies like "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones".

As a fan of "Toy Story" and the other movies from Pixar, I've been happy to see how many great toys have been made for the characters from those movies - especially the classic Ultimate Talking Buzz Lightyear made for more than a decade by Thinkway. Mattel and Hasbro also make some great toys for these movies.
